“Bug Day” Ottawa 2018. by Dr. Roman Kryuchkov
September 08, 2018
This year our lab was invited to have a table at “Bug Day” organized by Entomological Society of Ontario and Ottawa Field-Naturalists’ Club. It was amazing for us to be present there and inform people about our work.
This event again is a good opportunity to inform people about risks around us. We showed various tick species, which are found in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. We explained simple precautions that people can take, such as wearing long clothing, tucking pants into the socks, wearing repellents with DEET or icaridin, and staying on the trail as much as possible. Also, we explained why it is important to take shower or bathe after being in a wooded area (to wash off any ticks that aren't yet attached), and do a full body tick check on yourself, your children and pets.
Forewarned is forearmed!
